The first full-season 2020 GT Sports Club Europe entry is confirmed as Mauro Ricci returns alongside the AKKA-ASP squad, driving the all-new #61 Mercedes-AMG GT3 2020.
Ricci has prior experience of GT Sports Club, having contested select rounds between 2015 and 2017, where he scored a best finish of second in his final outing at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, alongside two further podiums earlier that year at Circuit Paul Ricard.
French team AKKA-ASP are also no strangers to the series for bronze-grade drivers, having taken eight victories, as well as the overall title in 2017 with Anthony Pons, making them one of GT Sports Club’s most successful outfits.
The entry also marks the series’ first appearance for the 2020-spec Mercedes-AMG GT3, which finished second on its Intercontinental GT Challenge debut at the Bathurst 12 Hour.
For 2020, the GT Sports Club Europe will be split into the GT3 and GT2 championships, each consisting of five events supporting rounds of SRO’s popular GT World Challenge Europe, with interest from manufacturers, teams and drivers continuing to grow.
The series consists of three classes - overall, Titanium Cup for drivers aged 50-59 and Iron Cup for those over 60-years-old. In GT3, the championship kicks off at Monza on April 18-192020 and will support rounds of the prestigious GT World Challenge Europe. There will also be an official pre-season test in Le Castellet on March 12-13.
