Blancpain GT Sports Club points leader Mario Cordoni (#70 AF Corse Ferrari 488 GT3) carried on his dominant championship form to top the first free practice session at Circuit Paul Ricard. Meanwhile, Klaus Dieter Frers (#3 Artega Rennsport Ferrari 488 GT3) outpaced Stephen Earle (#111 Kessel Racing 488 GT3) to lead the Iron Cup field.
Christian Hook (#33 Rinaldi Racing 488 GT3) went quickest late in the session, but Mario Cordoni’s time of 2:06.463 on his final run saw the German fall to second, with Boutsen Ginion’s Claude-Yves Gosselin (#4 Lamborghini Gallardo Extenso R-EX), who led earlier in the running, completing the all-Titanium Cup top-three.
Luigi Lucchini (#7 BMS Scuderia Italia SRL Ferrari 458 GT3) showed impressive pace on his first race in the series since scoring points here last season to go fourth fastest, seeing three Ferraris occupying the top-four positions.
Runner-up twice in Monza, Karim Ojjeh (#2 BMW M6 GT3) was fifth in Le Castellet for Boutsen Ginion, with Angélique Detavernier (#55 AF Corse 488 GT3) showing competitive speed on her return to end the session in sixth place, less than half-a-tenth behind the Saudi Arabian driver.
In the Iron Cup class it was as close as ever, with Klaus Dieter Frers’ lap time of 2:09.533 halfway through practice remaining unbeaten, despite a late challenge from Stephen Earle.
Louis-Philippe Soenen (#50 AF Corse Ferrari 488 GT3) also improved as the session wore on to finish third in class, hinting at a strong battle between the Iron Cup trio this weekend.
